You need to be able to “see” what people are offering to sell you so that you don’t get drawn into a bad situation. On Christian Business Online we will look at ways people try to make money on the Internet. We will discuss starting your own blog/website for free. We will look at the advantages of purchasing a domain name and web host (for under $100 (one hundred dollars) a year) that will provide for more business flexibility than a free blog. We will talk about Affiliate Marketing. We will discuss Niche sites. We will try and help you think about how to take what you are passionate about and working your passion into your business.

Look for the Bottom Line

When you are looking at Web Sites you need to look with discernment about what they might really be selling. Start with this site. What is the bottom line? I’ll tell you. First, as a Christian, I believe that you reap what you sow. I want to sow what I have learned to help others. Second, let me list for you the potential ways this site can make money.

• I put a Virtual Cup of Coffee on the site. If someone is blessed by the information here they could buy me a cup. If they do it cost’s them $5 and I get $4.55. Not many people will do this.
• There is a Donations Welcome area at the bottom of the page. Not many people will do this either.
• If someone takes my advice to use a domain name and a web host and they use the Web Hosting Service I recommend (GoodNewsDomains.com) I can make $5 or $10 dollars.
• Once I have written the articles for this site I will put in some Google Adsense ads. My guess from the traffic study I did is that this could make $10 or $15 dollars a month.
• I will offer my consultant service to people who want a little extra help to get their blog set up and give some advice on getting it noticed by search engines. I offer that service for $200 (two Hundred dollars). Since I provide a lot of free information on my other blog, My Newbie Blog, for free, only people that are really interested in learning the process will decide to sign up for consulting.

If you do the math, (you can use your fingers if you need to) this site might realistically make $25-$50 dollars a month if it gets traffic (it can take months to get traffic from search engines). Maybe a few people will decide to go for the consulting. If things go really well this site might make $800 (eight hundred dollars) a year. If they don’t go well, the site could easily make $0 (zero dollars). If the only thing that happens is that it helps a few people along the way then it’s good. I will leave the results in God’s hands. There is no better place to be! Blessings!

The ideas for Christian business we will be looking into will all revolve around using the Internet and in particular different ways that we can monetize (make money from) a blog or website. Without spending a dime you can begin to figure out how blogs work and it will be a great training process. There are a lot of different ways that people can make money from a blog. The two major ways that we will be looking at in the future are Affiliate Marketing and Niche Sites. Both of these methods will require some knowledge of how to set up and maintain a blog. Fortunately, this is something that you can do even with a very limited knowledge of computers. To get your free blog started I would recommend that you use either Blogger.com or WordPress.com. I also want to suggest that you get familiar with a blog I use for training purposes called My Newbie Blog. This blog explains how to create a blog in great detail. I recommend that you read all of the articles on My Newbie Blog eventually, but to help you with starting your free blog you should read “More on Starting Free Blogs“. After you get your free blog started you need to begin working on writing articles. Article writing is very important in bringing traffic to your site. Traffic is what will make your site profitable. I want to encourage you to write at least five articles on your new blog. Even if you decide to start a different blog for your business, this free blog will be useful in helping people to find your Christian Business site and in developing traffic. Go ahead and get your free blog started and start reading some of the articles on My Newbie Blog. We have already suggested that you start with a free blog to begin to learn how the process works. There are some advantages to having a domain name and web host. You can purchase a domain name for about $10 (ten dollars) a year. If you decide to get your own domain name you can pick up a name that fits your business and will be something that people can remember. One of the problems with the free blogs is that the domain names end up being way to long. If you decide to get a domain name you can go to Good News Domains and pick one out.

Paying for a web host will also provide you with more flexibility. A web host will cost you about $80 (eighty dollars) a year. When your site is web hosted you have more flexibility with the advertising you can do and also with the way you maintain your site. You have more theme options available to you. If you use Good News Domains as your web host you will also be able to add up to 24 more blogs without paying any more money (we will talk more about this when we talk about niche sites).
